“LOVE & REGRET”
Love & Regret is the name of the new solo album by Katarina Knechtova, the successful Slovak singer and Christian Eigner, the world-renowned music producer and composer, drummer with the legendary Depeche Mode and co-writer with David Gahan.
The album release is going to in spring 2012.
The album title Love & Regret describes the singer’s current phase of life, where after successful years spent as a singer and songwriter with several leading bands and achieving a number of awards, she decided to come out of the shadows and launch a solo career, so as to move ahead both personally and artistically.
“The work on this album took over a year. It will be released in 2 languages, my native Slovak and also in English (for foreign markets). One of the main targets is to try to get to foreign countries and present my music outside of the Slovak and Czech borders…For me as a composer and songwriter, working with Christian Eigner was a very important point in my career which opened me up to new musical opportunities that allowed me to move the music forward in both sound and my personal and artistic growth….and last but not least, hopefully, we can find a way to bring this music to foreign fans.”
The whole album will have a rock background to it modified and enhanced by electronic sound – the idea of the singer – with Eigner contributing a ‘depeche’ feel to the style.
From Katarína this is a very new sound and new expression and it will be no surprise if because of her extraordinary vocal potential, and the talent of drummer and sound magician Christian Eigner, this project may well go down in the history of music as a “magical collaboration”.
She released her first solo album Zodiac in 2008. This album was produced by ‘Head’, the respected english producer known for his work with Massive Attack and P. J. Harvey.
Christian Eigner decided to cooperate with Katarina Knechtová on the basis of her demo recordings, which he thought would at the very least make for an interesting project as both have very similar artistic sensibilities and lean in a rock direction. Katarina was used to so-called guitar pop-rock, without an electronic approach to songs, but after two years intensive cooperation on the recordings they were given a distinct 3D sound dimension, so typical for Christian’s approach to production. This also added to the quality of the recording studios near Vienna.
“It was a great experience for me, Christian had for the entire time an absolutely professional attitude to work, and he was very open-minded to my musical ideas. I gained a new view to song arrangements and working on albums.”
The Czech production company B4P has the role of executive producer, covering all territories for Katarina Knechtova both domestic and abroad.
The music was composed by the singer and the lyrics by Vlado Krausz. Christian Eigner was the producer. Track remixes were done in a recording studio in England by sound engineer Paul “P-Dub” Walton, who used all his experience to express Christian’s idea for this album. Paul has worked with famous world artists such as Madonna, U2, Rihanna, All Saints, Bjork, No Doubt, Sugababes and many others. Christian has played for a wide range of artists, with over 300 album collaborations to his credit.
