A legend returns – „OMEGA“ from Hungary back on tour!!!
After more than twenty years of self-prescribed abstinence abroad the legendary Hungarian Rock band OMEGA started a sensational comeback in Europe (Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia and Romania) in 2005.
Joined by a big media interest, the band inspired their fans in the almost always sold-off halls, open-air-arenas and stadiums.
The attendance of single concerts lays between 5,000 and 70,000.
In 1968 OMEGA was not only the first band from the east-Europe that ever toured the British Island, but also the first that produced an album at “Decca” in London (the record company of “The Rolling Stones”) and had an appearance on a British television.
In 1970 OMEGA created the international breakthrough and won awards at festivals in Palma de Mallorca and Tokyo with their hit-single “Gyöngyhajù làny” (Pearls in her Hair). The song became a world hit and got covered countless times in more than 100 languages such as the cover version “White Dove” of “The Scorpions”, who were support-act of OMEGA in West-Germany during the `70s.
In the `70s and `80s, the band toured in all European countries, except Malta.
OMEGA played at almost all important European festivals, stood with bands like “The Who” and “Queen” on one stage and was in the `70s support-act for “The Rolling Stones” in Germany.
OMEGA produced and published albums in Hungarian, German and English,
received in several countries „golden records“ and sold worldwide about 50 million releases and DVD.
In the middle of the `80s the band retreated to Hungary, played till 1989 another two stadium concerts in Budapest and then took a five-year break.
In 1994 the band started a comeback with a sold-off concert in the Budapest “Nep”-stadium with 60.000 fans.
In 1996 appeared at SPV with “Trancendent”, a new English album which received the best criticism.
In 1999 and 2001 OMEGA played another two sold-off stadium concerts in Budapest.
In 2004, there was – after more than 20 years – the first tour with 8 hall-concerts in Hungary finishing with another sold-off stadium concert in Budapest, visited by fans from whole Europe.
Because of a big inquiry in Hungary, OMEGA extended the tour in 2005 and played another 14 hall-concerts in Hungarian towns, followed by the comeback outside Hungary.
On the EUROPEAN TOUR in 2006 the band played concerts in Germany, Poland, Serbia Montenegro, Slovakia, Romania, Russia and Hungary.
The audience and media response was indescribably big, again.
During the tour the band produced a new album which appeared at “Universal” in Hungary under the title “Ègi jel” (sky sign) on 2006/9/4 and reached platinum status within 4 weeks. In addition, at “Dunefish” in Germany released „Best of OMEGA Vol.2“ as well as at EMI in the Czech Republic and Slovakia two albums: „Best of OMEGA Vol.1/Vol.2“.
The band celebrated their 45-year-old jubilee with a concert on 2007/08/11 at “Elbwiesen” near Dresden/Germany. “Dunefish” releases “Best of OMEGA Vol.3”.
A severe illness of drummer Ferenc Debreszeni forced the band to cancel the 2008-planned tour.
In 2009 – after more than 30 years – the band played two concerts in Poland. A singer Jano Kobor and a guitarist György “elephant” Molnar are special guests
for “The Scorpions” on two concerts in Budapest and Kosice. In summer
the band headlined festivals in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany.
For 2010 festival and concert inquiries from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and Romania are already given and a tour-routing will be concluded, soon. The publication of a new long player and the appearance of a book, singer Janos Kobor wrote, are planned for autumn.
The band´s occupations since 1971:
Janos „Mecky“ Kobor (vocals)
György „Elefant“ Molnar (guitar)
Ferenc „Ciki“ Debreczeni (drums)
Laszlo Benkö (keys)
Tamas „Michi“ Mihaly (bass)
